The recent Josiah Macy Foundation report challenged American medical colleges to reduce the expense of becoming a physician, to shorten the time it takes to earn a degree, and to train physicians who can help solve today’s health care problems. LECOM has already met that call to action with quality medical education at an affordable price, three-year medical degrees and a student-centered curriculum.

Medical students pursuing the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree at LECOM Erie choose from five student-centered learning pathways: traditional Lecture-Discussion courses; small-group, Problem-Based Learning, and Independent Study based on self-directed learning modules. LECOM offers the only three-year medical curricula, the Primary Care Scholars Pathway and the Accelerated Physician Assistant Pathway. And, the Best Medical Colleges listing from US News & World Report ranks LECOM seventh in the nation in graduating the most primary care physicians. At LECOM Bradenton and LECOM at Seton Hill, all medical students enroll in Problem-Based Learning.

For students seeking the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, the LECOM School of Pharmacy offers a choice between a fast-track, three-year pathway in Erie or the traditional four-year pathway at LECOM Bradenton. College graduates requiring additional science training and preparation for medical and pharmacy school admissions can enroll in LECOM's Post Baccalaureate program and continue their studies toward a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences.

LECOM also welcomes physicians and medical residents to learn how to use their clinical training as a teacher. The LECOM Masters of Science in Medical Education degree prepares doctors to become better educators as clinical preceptors and residency program instructors.

LECOM is part of the Millcreek Health System with its affiliates, Millcreek Community Hospital, Medical Associates of Erie, the LECOM Medical Fitness & Wellness Center and the Millcreek Geriatric Education and Care Center. Through the Lake Erie Consortium of Osteopathic Medical Training, LECOM has built a network of more than 30 teaching hospitals where LECOM graduates find AOA accredited post-graduate medical training.
