About Us

Penn State Schuylkill provides the academic opportunities of a Penn State Big Ten university with an international reputation in a setting as intimate and comfortable as that of a small college. Located outside Schuylkill Haven in east-central Pennsylvania, Penn State Schuylkill is close to major cities such as Philadelphia, New York,and Washington, D.C. Our tree-lined mall and broad lawns provide an ideal setting for student activities and athletics. For students who treasure the outdoors, the famous Hawk Mountain Sanctuary and recreational possibilities of the Pocono Mountains are nearby. At Penn State Schuylkill you can complete the first two years of more than 160 Penn State bachelor’s degree programs or earn one of five associate degrees. A select number of baccalaureate degree programs are also available for students who want to earn a bachelor’s degree without leaving Penn State Schuylkill. Faculty

Faculty members at Penn State Schuylkill are leaders in teaching, research, and creative pursuits. Helen Hendy, associate professor of psychology, promotes learning with her entertaining lectures and by involving students in research projects. Professor Stephen Couch, a sociologist who has published two books on technological disasters, brings to the classroom a wealth of understanding of human communities. Judith Stephens, professor of humanities and theatre, illuminates history by examining the works of women playwrights who have written about African American lynchings.

An average of nineteen students per class allows our faculty to interact personally with students. Our teachers also serve as academic advisers and mentors. Throughout your time at Penn State Schuylkill, a personal adviser will help you identify and achieve your academic and career goals.

Student Aid

As the land-grant university of Pennsylvania, Penn State receives appropriations from the state legislature. The quality of a Penn State education, coupled with affordable tuition, makes the University an excellent value in higher education. In addition, Penn State provides access to all state and federal grant and loan programs for qualified individuals. Activities and Sports

Penn State Schuylkill offers more than thirty student organizations and six varsity sports (soccer, cross-country, volleyball, basketball, softball, and golf). The Student Government Association represents students with the campus administration. Varsity and intramural athletics also play an important role. A well equipped fitness center is a popular place for students to gather, and the gymnasium has several open recreation periods each week.
