A History of Quality Vocational Training

Kaplan Career Institute, Harrisburg campus, was founded in 1918 as Beckley College, a business school offering vocational training to students in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. In 1934, ownership of the school was transferred to Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Thompson, who renamed it Thompson College. Twenty-five years later, Arthur F. Nelson purchased the school and changed its name to Thompson Institute. For several decades, the school continued its tradition of providing quality business education programs and expanded its curricula to include computer engineering technology and computer-aided drafting training programs. The school is now owned by Kaplan Higher Education Corporation, one of the largest providers of postsecondary education in the United States and has changed its name to Kaplan Career Institute.
